J & A's has been a small, family owned cafe on Huntington Drive since 1995. That stretch of road is Historic Route 66, which is why the Mother Road runs right through the place, printed across every menu on the table.
Inside it looks like what it is: a proper neighborhood diner that nobody has felt the need to modernize. Pink booths, terracotta tile, white wire chairs, and a wall stacked with old bicycles, framed photographs and vintage Coca-Cola signs. Two separate customers reached for the same word without comparing notes. Nostalgic.
The cooking is straightforward and there is a lot of it. Eggs done how you asked, potatoes crisped on the flat top, pancakes that people write paragraphs about, and salsas made in house rather than poured out of a jug. The coffee gets refilled before you look up.
Breakfast and lunch, six in the morning until two in the afternoon, every single day of the week.
